Have Your Say: College Green – Dame Street Public Realm Project
Dublin City Council, in partnership with the National Transport Authority, invites members of the public to participate in an online consultation on the emerging design for the College Green – Dame Street Public Realm Project.

This landmark project aims to reshape the historic heart of Dublin into a safe, accessible, and vibrant pedestrian-friendly public space that celebrates the city's heritage while addressing future needs for sustainability, mobility, and social inclusion.

Overview

In line with Dublin City Council’s commitment to placemaking and public realm improvement, the College Green – Dame Street Public Realm Project proposes the transformation of a central area in the city into a world-class, universally accessible, and environmentally sustainable urban space.

The project area includes:

  • Dame Street (from Trinity College to South Great George’s Street)

  • College Green

  • Church Lane

  • Suffolk Street

  • St Andrew’s Street

  • Trinity Street

  • Fownes Street Upper

  • Cope Street

  • Anglesea Street

  • Foster Place

The proposal is currently in its initial concept and pre-design phase. While no final designs have been developed yet, the aim is to create an inclusive, green, and people-focused space.

Project Vision & Design Leadership

The reimagining of this civic space is being led by Scott Tallon Walker Architects (Dublin), in collaboration with OKRA Urban Designers and Landscape Architects (Netherlands), as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

The design vision prioritises:

  • Restoration and celebration of heritage

  • Universal accessibility

  • Social inclusion and safety

  • Sustainability and biodiversity

  • Greening of the city centre

Public Engagement to Date

Last year, the project team conducted an early engagement phase, gathering insights from the public regarding their experiences and aspirations for College Green. Feedback received during this phase has directly informed the emerging design.

As part of this next stage of consultation, a set of six visual materials, including context imagery and artist impressions, along with a document outlining proposed access for cyclists and vehicles, are available for public review.
